Our Sunshine Coast Greenway route, covering a wide area with various attractions, is divided into six manageable sections. This division allows users to explore different parts of the route based on their convenience, interest, and fitness level. Each section brings its unique charm and character, showcasing diverse landscapes and experiences.
- Colchester to Brightlingsea: This section takes you from the historic city of Colchester through idyllic countryside landscapes and leads you to the coastal town of Brightlingsea.
- Brightlingsea to Clacton: Venture from Brightlingsea, along the estuary, witnessing varied birdlife and serene marshlands, until you reach the lively seaside resort of Clacton.
- Clacton to Walton: This stretch takes you along the coast, letting you experience stunning sea views and sandy beaches as you move from Clacton to the traditional seaside town of Walton.
- Walton to Harwich: Starting from Walton, this section moves you along the coastline with a mix of beaches and marshland, finally leading to Harwich’s maritime charm.
- Harwich to Manningtree: Enjoy a tranquil journey from Harwich, through estuary landscapes and quaint villages, ending in the attractive town of Manningtree.
- Manningtree to Colchester: The final leg takes you from Manningtree, back through estuary and countryside views, leading you back to the vibrant city of Colchester.
Each of these sections offers unique experiences, and together they form the circular Sunshine Coast Greenway, linking landscapes, enhancing accessibility, and promoting green travel.

- Historical Sites: From the Roman history of Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain, to the maritime heritage of Harwich, the route is dotted with historical landmarks. Brightlingsea is known for its centuries-old tradition of fishing and sailing, while Clacton’s Victorian pier stands as a testament to the town’s history as a popular seaside resort.
- Natural Beauty: Experience the serene beauty of the estuary, the lushness of the countryside, and the allure of sandy beaches. The trail provides stunning panoramas, from the coastal vistas of Walton to the estuarine landscapes of Manningtree.
- Birdwatching: The route is a paradise for birdwatchers, particularly along the marshlands, where numerous species of waders and waterfowl can be spotted. The Colne estuary is a designated Special Protection Area due to its significance for bird populations.

The beaches at Clacton and Walton are perfect for family outings, and the quieter countryside paths offer peaceful retreats for walkers and cyclists.
